“We know clearly from very large studies depression can worsen Alzheimer’s, can bring it on sooner and can make it progress faster.  So at our center here we always screen older folks who are maybe on the cusp of an early dementia for depression.  And if they have any bit of depression or anxiety, we treat it because treating the depression, boosting up serotonin in the brain has been shown to slow down the progression in fact even stabilize folks who are in the very early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease.”  ~ Dr. Peter McAllister, NEINH.
